Pinterest Pin it Button How To

After much research and frustration I finally was able to figure out how to add the Pinterest Pin it button to all blog posts. You might want to add it if you want to let your readers pin your posts/photos and have them link back to your blog. It's another way to share like Facebook and Twitter.

Do this when you can give it your full attention and follow these steps.
  • Go to your Blogger Dashboard and go to Template. (New Blogger)
  • Back up your template for good measure.
  • Click Edit HTML
  • Click Proceed
  • Check Expand Widgets
  • Ctrl+F and find the following line
<b:if cond='data:top.showAuthor'>
This line appears twice in your template, we are working with the top one.

Now paste the following code just below that.

<a href='javascript:void(run_pinmarklet())'><img src="http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/mom2dawood/pinmarklet.png" style='margin:0; padding:0; border:none;'/></a>
<script type='text/javascript'>
function run_pinmarklet() {
  var e=document.createElement('script');

Preview your blog. You should see the pinmarklet on your post footer just before your name and the time. If everything looks good, save your template and try it out!

Good luck, and if you have any problems, let me know.

Doll Hair Fix

If you have girls, you probably have dolls. And you know how messed up their hair can get. When new, the dolls' hair is shiny and soft, but pretty soon it's tangled and rough. Well, I once saw a pin on Pinterest about using fabric softener to get doll hair soft again. So I thought, lets try it.

Ain't nothing magic about Rapunzel's hair here.

We need hair help!

Just comb some fabric softener through their hair...

You can do it like this or use a spray bottle, a little goes a long way.
Detangled and letting it dry.
This doll's hair was even worse.

Should she just be relegated to a pixie cut? ( I think it's cute )

Comb, comb, comb.

Let it dry...
And now it's nice and smooth.

Thanks lady!
Rapunzel's locks are once again shiny and soft.

Try it on your girls' dolls. I assume if it's done a lot it could get build up but I guess it can be washed.

Zayneb is 12 today! I can't believe it. TWELVE! She was my first daughter and is a wonderfully kind and hilarious girl. She's often helpful to her little sisters and kind of my buddy a lot of times too.  Here are some of her greatest hits:

Just a few hours old.
Smiley baby!
As a cute and curious toddler.

Laughing it up in a water gun fight.

A little lady

What a great smile.

She looks soo much like Safiyah here.

Hair cut and looking nice.

Sleeping with Mish Mish.

Driving a boat. :)

Face paint at Giza Zoo.

Looking fancy at a end of year school assembly.

Growing up

Sweet as can be

A young lady.

Seriously, the other day I got weepy when I noticed how grown up she's getting. I love you Zayneb, you're my buddy forever.

Yesterday I went to a sort of flea market. There were all kinds of stands. New, used, Avon/Oriflame, housewares, food. It's great to see this type of thing becoming popular here. Here are a few of my finds.

One woman had a stand of beautiful hand made soaps. I bought this one because it's made with ylang ylang. I love the smell of ylang ylang, but mostly I just like saying ylang ylang.
I got this Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean olive oil dry body spray. It's really nice on and lightly scented.
I love a good scrub, I tried this one by Avon last night and I liked the size of the beads, not huge or tiny and the scent is nice, which is always important to me.
A wood bangle.
These tiny little jewels that you stick on your nail polish. For some perspective on how small they are, look at the little bottle they came in.

Teeny Tiny
Finally this dress for Zayneb. She got it for her  bday on Monday. It's short so she'll wear it over leggings or jeans. It looks really nice on her, mashaAllah.

Blog Ideas

So these past few days I've given my blog a complete overhaul. I enjoyed doing it and I'm pretty happy with the results. Let me point out some of the changes I made, and links to how, in case you'd like to add these elements to your own blog.

Template-  I got this template from nymphont.com She has many beautiful, unique designs that are free to use. You can even change some things but you have to leave her link on the bottom, it's only fair. I usually make my own templates but I wanted something simple and I loved this. I tweaked a few little things to my liking as well.

Facebook Landing Page- A lot of us have a page on facebook for our blogs for people to like and get updates on new posts. Pagemodo.com will walk you through making a landing or welcome page for your blog's fb page. Check out mine to see what I mean. Mama Mona on Facebook  (Like it while you're there?) It gives your page a nice, professional touch. The instructions are pretty easy to follow,  it's customizable and free!

Back To Top Button- If I may draw your attention to the right, you'll notice this button. It's a quick way to go back to the top of the page if you want to navigate to another link on the link bar or whatever. I found the ultimate, easy tutorial for this smooth, fading back to top button. I only changed 700px to 10px in the code to make it on the right instead of in the center.

EDIT: I have to say that I've currently uninstalled IntenseDebates because it was being buggy and wonky. Still working out if I'll just stick to blogger or what.

Intense Debate Comments- I replaced the blogger comments form with IntenseDebate. The blogger one is a pain and it doesn't support threads or comment luv. It's pretty easy to install but definitely set it to "new posts only" or you could lose your old comments. It can open in a pop up which is always better and you can customize the colors as well.

Twitter Status Display Widget-  I learned how to install it from this tutorial, but I edited the image to match my template. You have to have your tweets set to public for this to work, of course.

Make sure you download your template any time you're editing html so if anything goes wrong, you can restore it. If you would like more info or some help on any of these, please,  feel free to ask me. So how do you like the new look?

A Mini Vacation

Last week we went to a resort in El Quseir, a mere 2 hour drive away for a nice 3 day break.
We went to this place last year. It was just as nice this time. I was happy to see several Egyptian families around this time. I suppose since it was mid year break but it was good not being the only hijabi in sight. Less stares for sure. Anyway, I decided to make the photos a slide show instead of having a lot of photos in a post.

While I was there, I enjoyed playing a little game we like to call the smiling game. A bit of a social experiment. I'd smile at people coming towards me and see how many would smile back. Interesting findings. Very scientific. Foreigners all smile back but about 25% would avoid eye contact. Egyptains, 60%  avoid eye contact and no one smiled back. Odd indeed. I don't know why.

Anyway we all had a nice time. Really, what's not to like, sleep, eat, swim, eat, repeat.

So a few days ago I was Google-ing hijab organizing and found this video by Sobia of Reveiling Yourself.
I loved her idea of using hangers and shower curtain rings to hold all your scarfs. After my recent attempt/fail at hijab storage, I was eager to put this plan into action. I went and bought the supplies. Pretty cheap too.

Sturdy hangers and shower curtain rings. Each pack of rings has 12 and they're just 3.50LE.

I tried to group them by color as much as possible.

Then I hung them, I used the black space saver thingy just so I can see each row.

I put all my under-scarves/bandanas etc in a basket below them.

And there it is!
I'm really happy with this way. I now have a free drawer too, I definitely need that space. Thanks Sobia, for the idea!

Organizing Make Up

I decided that how I kept my make up, having a lot of it on top of the dresser, was not ideal. It took up precious dresser top space, also having a little here and some there just wasn't efficient. I decided to organize it all in my top drawer where I'd kept some of it, but figured having it in one place would be much better.

First I took everything out. Threw out any old gunky mascaras, goopy glosses and cleaned the dusty old hairbands and bobby pins out of the drawer. Then I put anything that was not often used, in an old Caboodles. (remember them?)  Yes. I still have a big purple one from 1995.

Next, I got some containers, a few were from Galaxy Jewels chocolate and a few are cardboard little gift boxes and one regular kitchen container. I placed them in my half of the drawer. (Really I take more than half of the drawer but, girls need more space, ok?!)

I then put the things I use regularly in one container up front and then organized things like so.

I don't use brushes that often so having them in a cup, on my dresser was just collecting dust so I gave them a good wash, and put them in here too.  Next project: Organizing my nail stuff? I also need to REorganize my hijabs, my hijab hanger broke and I need to sort/purge some soon.  Any organization tips for me?

And A Good Time Was Had By All

This past weekend we dad a lovely little day trip to near by ElGouna for a picnic. The weather was really nice and this place, I'm in love with it. It's a fish farm but they have picnic areas and lots of greenery to enjoy. It was really pretty and the kids had a really wonderful time. I hope we can do it again, it really was so much fun. Here are some photos from our day.

Safiyah and her friend, Jomana

Zayneb in a little row boat with her friend Farida.

Dawood and his buddy Ibrahim showing him how to bait a hook.

Getting the hang of it.

Picnic area, we brought sandwiches and drinks but really the kids wouldn't stop playing to eat.

Lots of lakes for fishing.

Man made.

They caught little fish but let them go.

Safiyah caught the biggest one :)

They fed this guy a few of the little fish too.

Salwa on the bridge.

The guy showing them how it's done.

Good times.

Later that day I had some great carrot juice and loved the bright orange color.
