A New Home

It's been a while since I've blogged. Anyone notice? I've been really busy because I was moving! I'm now all moved into our new place and really happy about it Alhamdulillah. I had been wanting/needing to move out of our old apartment for a while. We'd out grown it and it was really getting cramped. Alhamdulillah we all really love the new place. There's still a few things that need to be done/bought for it to be complete but nothing very necessary.

Moving was such a huge pain though. This was my first real, big move as a grown up and it's really a lot of work. I also was sick/ still sick through it all and that made it even harder but Alhamdulillah we did it! Also, it inspired a lot of de-cluttering and organizing. In between packing, I was watching a lot of OrganizedLikeJen on Youtube. I'd sit in awe of how everything was so neat and in it's place. I'm now proud to say my place is organized and I plan on it staying that way. I still need to do the pantry as I just put stuff anywhere just to get unpacked, but I'll go in probably tomorrow and figure out the best way to store everything.

One of best things about our new place is that it has a garden area outside, so the kids can play out there and we can sit and have tea/ meals outside as well. I'm super excited to have people over now too, I never wanted people to come over before because it was so cramped. Now I can't wait to have company!  I'm also very happy and thankful that I have a master bedroom/our own bathroom with a tub, (hello relaxing baths) and my very own walk in closet! I've never had one before and it's so great and I keep stealing glances in there and all it's organized glory. We really did need a second bathroom, I mean we are 6 people! Alhamdulillah. Zayneb is so happy to have her own room now, she really loves it, mashaAllah.

I'm really so thankful and happy, I feel blessed.

Misc.

Blogger/Google/Picasa have informed me that my photo storage is full. It only took almost 8 years of blogging!. I'm now using Photobucket and I hope it's showing up everywhere. I remember someone once said  it was blocked where they were.

Anyhow, this post is just a random jumble of images of late.

This here is a mug I made in a workshop at the same place I go to Zumba. They were making Christmas designs and I decided to go for the Zumba logo. I'm just using it for make up brushes though cause I'm not fully confident of that paint staying on through many washes.
What happened here was we were eating at KFC and it was an outdoor table. About 8-10 cats swarmed around us and waited for food. It was hilarious and fun.
My current manicure, it's Wet n' Wild Megalast in I Need A Refresh-Mint. It's a little more green in real life but I wouldn't call it mint, more of a Tiffany's blue. I love the brush on this, flat and wide and curved. If you've tried it, you know what I mean.
This is on a pajama top I got as a gift and it's a very cozy, comfy pair of PJ's, but this picture/wording cracks me up so bad.  The look on the T-Rex is one of "I don't know why it says Crocodile either"

This is a T-shirt I re-did specifically for my Zumba Pink Party. I realize it's a little gaudy/tacky but it's just for fun. I cut the neckline and hems off and stretched them out. Then I made some cuts on the sleeves and backs and lined the openings with a contrasting color fabric, holding it in place with little studs.

I'm now proudly down 8 kilos. I really love the feeling of my jeans being loose on me. I sewed elastic in one pair and another I want to do the same. I don't want to buy new stuff because I fully intend to get smaller so I'll just wait.

I'm going to be moving soon and it's a lot of work but also exciting. Lots of sorting, purging and organizing on my mind. If you like organizing you need to look at this Youtube channel Organizedlikejen She's like, crazy organized and I want to be like her when I grow up.

That's all for now, write me a comment will ya?

Out For Sushi

I'm becoming addicted to sushi. I really love it and have been wanting some for a while. Pretty food is also nice so, you have to take pictures!

Captive  decor fishies, not on the menu.

Virgin Mojito, a very refreshing accompaniment to seafood.

Salad with cabbage, crab, salmon and sesame seeds.

Miso soup

The sushi! A memorable meal.

I love how sushi never makes you feel gross or overly full. Satisfied but never that heavy feeling.
Are you a fan?

Street Harassment

What can a mom say to a boy or man who is ogling her daughter? If he's said something lewd or whistled? What do you do?! What should a girl say or do if she is a victim of sexual harassment on the street? It makes me red with rage and until now I've only either ignored it or given them a look.  It's so pathetic that this is the national past time. I have to say, it's not as bad here as it is in say, Cairo. It may have something to do with there being plenty of scantily clad tourists who probably and unfortunately  get the brunt of it. I recently, after having this post in draft for a while ended up yelling at some guys that made a comment directed at my daughters and their friend on the street. I'm not sure it was the right thing to do but I couldn't help it at the moment.

It's so frustrating and makes me sick. They'll do it right in front me, the mom!  I have yet to decide on the best way to deal with this. I tell my daughters to ignore it but I'm not sure if that's the best approach anymore. I mean, I guess they want some kind of reaction so maybe ignoring is better, I don't know. What do these guys get out of it anyway? It's disgusting. Any suggestions?

Gym Update

So, I'm still going to the gym and It's great. Most of the time.  We have a little group that comes in every morning and it's kind of cool.  Our instructor is really great. She's very motivational and is good at her job. For example in Zumba, she knows just how many fast songs we can take before we could use a bit if a slower song. She amazes me. While we can wring out the sweat from our hair and shirts, and we are pretty out of breath, she's cool and hardly sweats and can carry on a conversation with no trouble. I guess that comes with being fit.

One particular day at the gym still makes me laugh and say "What the hell?" at the same time.  There were 2 new women who came in and wanted to join. Picture this. They came in to work out wearing skin tight jeans and tank tops. One with full make up and her sun glasses propped on top of her head/hair and the other had long dangling earrings and held her mobile in her bra/top. Weird, right? How do you expect to be able to move around and work out like that? The instructor said that they should bring stretch pants or sweats next time and that they should remove the phone and sunglasses. So we get started. Just barely doing the beginning of a warm up, step touch, rolling shoulders, you know. These two women were just standing there, giggling! I have no idea what was so funny. After a bit of this, the instructor turned down the music and asked them if they came to try or to laugh. They said they just wanted to watch a bit because it's hard to follow. Whatever, it was nothing. At that point, one of them left and sat on the side and watched the rest of the class and the other one at least tried. As soon as something was a little difficult to do or something she thought looked silly, she'd just stop. I mean seriously? What are you doing here?

Later someone told me that a lot of women sometimes want to be able to say they have a gym membership and casually mention in converstaion that they were "at the gym" or whatever but they don't really want to work. It was utterly ridiculous. They never came back since. It's not that kind of gym.

My gym is not a fancy spa/beauty center type gym but it's clean, it's got all the equipment and a good, experienced instructor. It's also like a 3 minute walk from my place, so it's very convenient. There are other gyms in Hurghada that are fancy and have a sauna, steam room, beauty center etc. I think those ladies might be happier there.

Festival Time

This past weekend, the kids and I went to a local kid's festival. It was really cool and the kids had a blast.

The kid's doing some arts & crafts

Salwa assisting the magician.

Sponge Bob and Patrick made an appearance, lol.

I felt this snake. Feels soft.

Salwa doing some stencil art.

Of course the guy on stilts stands in front of me.

This is the weirdest character I've ever seen.

There was a Chinese circus show

Unicycling.

Dawood watching the show

Salwa and Safiyah getting their bounce on.

She was tossing that thing around like it was nothing.

Hard to capture in a photo but the table was spinning fast.

They held some competitions like a  ping pong ball in spoon race and limbo.

This guy had me nervous. He was on Arab's Got Talent.

Getting ready for color festival.

Whoohoo!

Safyiah and Salwa getting messy.

Dawood

Some local kids I thought looked especially colorful.

They had some street performers.

Can you see the fire?

They wanted 5 LE to take a picture with the snake, with your own camera! Poor snake.

A good time was had by all. The little one is my friend's daughter.

They got me too.

There was also an aerial trapeze show.

Some local students sang and danced at the end.

It was a fun day over all and I hope they do it again.
