2hijab.com Review

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

When I learned that on-line Islamic clothing store, 2hijab.com was based in Egypt, I was really excited to be able to shop on-line and get a new abaya. Right away I loved the one below. It's called Thuraya and I liked the simplicity, the sleeves and the color. It also comes in black, navy, brown, grey and olive green, but I chose the burgundy.

I exchanged a few emails with them and they were very prompt and let me know that they did in fact, ship to Hurghada and that they would give me a lower price in Egyptian pounds I called to get a price and they quoted 250LE which is about 40LE less than the dollar price listed. I asked roughly how much shipping would be and they said about 10-20 LE. I was stoked and took my measurements, send them in, and made my order. They said it would take 10 days as the abayas are made to order. They called me once the abaya was done and told me that I'd receive an email to make the payment. When I read the email I was shocked to see that shipping was 70 LE. I called them and they said it was out of their hands and that the shipping company, Aramex gave that price. I decided it was too much and they told me I could have it sent to someone I know in Cairo. My neighbor was in Cairo at the time and they sent it to her. She only came back this week so I finally got my abaya about a month after placing the order. This isn't 2hijabs fault, in fact they didn't charge me to deliver it to my friend's house but I gave her 260LE cash to pay for the abaya and for their driver's trouble.

When I got my hands on the abaya, I immediately saw that it was a much darker color than on the site. I know sometimes lights and computer screens can differ but this was a drastic difference. The fit is good except that the empire waist rides up a little sometimes. Also the ties in the back are barely long enough to tie and not long enough to make a bow. The fabric is nice and it's a well made garment.

I don't hate the color but I really would have liked if it was the color shown just because this burgandy is so dark it's almost dark brown, and I already have a brown abaya with similar sleeves. I didn't think it was worth the hassle of a return or anything and I'm satisfied with the abaya in general so it's a keeper.

And on me.

Closer pic of the color with flash.
All in all, I'd rate my experience with 2hijab.com a 7.5 out of 10. The color is kind of a big deal but otherwise they were accommodating, easy to contact and sold me a quality product for a decent price.

Back To School And Pretty Things

>> Monday, September 20, 2010

So school's back in (Cue the angels singing) and the weather is getting nicer. We're actually having the AC off sometimes now. It's nice. I feel a little cluttered mentally. It's partly to do with actual clutter and also to do with the kids' schedule not being quite set yet. They have a half day all this week and the bus driver is still getting used to the route, etc.. Hopefully by next week we'll have it down. The four of them now get on the bus together in the morning which is easier, plus the bus comes almost and hour later than past years. It's much better this way. Another thing is, you know that feeling you have after a trip or vacation and you come home and feel blah? Yea. I gots it. Thankfully though I have school starting to distract me. It's been a looong summer and I'm definitely ready for some quiet mornings and meeting friends for coffee in the AM, etc.

So enough of that. Here are some Pretty Things!

Hijab pins. You can never have too many.

Cute notebook & Gel pens. The kids got new school stuff so I got jealous.

My new clock! I love how it looks. Hate how it sounds. It scared the crap out of me the other morning. It'll just be a clock, no alarm, thanks.

Photobucket

I love this purse. It's my smallest one and the long strap lets me wear it across, hands free. It's more of a gunmetal grey than silver like it looks here.

Dangle-y peacock feather looking earrings. Cute?

Another pair of wedges. I like them cause they're really light.

I've got a pile of laundry with my name on it and it's not going anywhere. Till we meet again...

I Will Judge You

If you know me personally, you'd know I'm kind of a PC person. I don't like to offend and I don't like when people are offensive. That said, I think all of us make snap judgements about one another and that's natural. I don't mean to, it just happens. I've been proven wrong before, but these are the things that I will judge you on.

Hunting. I don't like it, I don't get it. If you hunt or worse have animal heads/fur in your decor, I will judge you.

Comic Sans. I can't stand this font and if you use it I'll just go ahead and assume you're lame.

Techno, I hate it. So stupid and repetitive. If you like/listen to techno. Ima judge ya.

Dirty Kids. All kids get dirty but when yours are always snot covered and filthy, I will immediately judge you.

I'm sure there are more. What are yours?

Eid Etc.

>> Sunday, September 19, 2010

Hey, everyone, hope you all had a nice Eid. This past week has been a busy blur, but a fun busy blur. We spent the first day of Eid at the mall here 'cause they had some fun kid activities. We saw Shrek The Final Chapter, for free at that! The kids played arcade games and jumped on the trampoline and bounce house. We had dinner at Planet Africa which just opened, the food was good but they gave me pita bread instead of tortillas. No biggie, they should have just said they didn't have any but whatever.

We went to Cairo for a few days and I just loved it. It was really relaxing. I love hotels and the carefree feeling you get when staying at a hotel or resort. The first two days we went in the pool and it was actually a little chilly but we still got a little sunburn. We spent a day at Dream Park, which is an amusement park and had loads of fun. I love roller coasters! Plus the lines were pretty short. We won a couple of bears with the claw type machine and then the last one the guy just opened the case and gave to me cause I'd almost gotten it a couple of times and it would fall back down. We played a little air hockey and ate some zalabia, all in all a great day. The last day we went and saw Cats & Dogs, The Revenge of Kitty Galore. It was ok, cute. The 3D wasn't that great but the kids enjoyed themselves. Here are some pics:

This book made my trip. I loved it. Anyone read it?

Eid's Coming Up

>> Tuesday, September 7, 2010

So, SubhanAllah, Ramadan is winding down. Tomorrow or the day after is the last day, inshaAllah. We've been trying to decide what to do for Eid and so far inshaAllah we have a plan. The first day of Eid most places are a nightmare. So crowded, you wish you'd stayed home. Here in Hurghada it's not so bad because most people go to Cairo or wherever they're from for Eid. We'll probably stay here and go out to dinner that day. After that we'll go to visit family up north then have a couple of days relaxation somewhere. I'm pretty excited!

As for my Eid outfit, I'd originally planned on a particular abaya that I ordered from 2hijab.com, but I don't think I'll have it in time. It's not the companies fault though. The shipping company wanted 70LE to send it from Cairo to Hurghada, and that's just ridiculous so I had it sent to my friend who lives here but is visiting Cairo at the moment. I'm not sure when she'll be back so I'm not banking on getting the abaya in time. Either way I still haven't gotten a hijab to match because I'm not sure of the exact shade in real life as apposed to the online picture. Here's the one I ordered.

I like that it's simple, after I ordered it, I realized that I made a polyvore with this exact abaya over 2 years ago!

So here's the other abaya I bought recently that'll be my Eid outfit. In the photo, the scarf looks lighter than it is.

When I saw this pin, I thought "perfect!"

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the 2 scarves so the pink is dominant but the edge of the black one shows. Not sure what shoes to wear but definitely black. My original Eid shoes won't match. I love Eid clothes and love to see what everyone's wearing. I can't wait for this post on HijabsHigh, might even submit a pic.

I hope you all have a great Eid and I look forward to having more time to blog once the kids start school soon after. :)

Fasting Is Not That Complicated

>> Friday, September 3, 2010

I can't understand why some people make the deen difficult. I've heard so many weird things that people think voids your fast in Ramadan, it's just ridiculous.

A friend of mine was taught that you can't remove hair during Ramadan days, like threading and waxing etc. What? Why? It's not true. Some people think you can go swimming while you're fasting because water might enter your body some how. Well, it wouldn't be intentionally so what the heck? Most fasting people don't go to the beach during the day because it's hot and you'll be thirsty but It's not forbidden. What about diving instructors or swim coaches? Should one not shower because water might get in your mouth? Silly, I say. Inhalers don't invalidate fasting either. It's going to your lungs and ummm helping you breathe!

Some more stupid things people have asked (on a site) if they invalidate fasting:
  • Bee/scorpion stings
  • Acid reflux
  • Suppositories
  • Popping pimples?!
  • Hugging your wife
  • Vaccinations
  • Eye/Ear drops
Allah made Islam easy. Why do people make it hard? I know the people asking are asking out of ignorance and want to be sure not to do anything to invalidate their fast but lets use some common sense. The things that invalidate one's fast are as follows:

  1. Eating and drinking
  2. Intercourse
  3. Things that take the place of eating and drinking, such as injections that provide nourishment
  4. Vomiting deliberately
  5. Menstruation and postpartum bleeding in the case of women
(Some people believe donating blood and cupping invalidate the fast because it will make you weak)
