Skin Care

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Do you follow a skin care regimen? I go through phases. Sometimes I'm really good and do each step and sometimes I'm lax and don't wash my face before bed or use moisturizer.

Right now I'm trying to keep up the habit and use the day/night/eye creams. For cleansing I rotate Garnier cleanser and Nivea milk depending on what I feel like, no real rhyme or reason. I scrub 2x a week with Asprin or this Avon scrub, and use a mask 2 times a week as well. No specific days just random.

I'm using Loreal Revitalift because I'm getting up there in the numbers. The stupid thing is, I don't think the day cream has SPF. I have some freckles from the sun that I've grown to get used to, but I don't want to get anymore. I'm sure those are from stupid days with no sunblock. When I'm going to be in the sun like going to the kids' swim practice or out running errands during the day, I just slather on the kids' sunscreen. I guess when I finish this, I want to find a good all in one face cream. Anyone know a good one?

Tonight the girls wanted to do a "facial" like me so I let them do a gentle yogurt honey mask. Not that little girls need it but it was just a fun thing. It was funny, I would have taken a picture but they were like, are you gonna put it on the website? So yea they didn't want that out there.

What's your skin care routine?

  1. See every girl I've met think's Im weird because I don't really have a skin care routine. I kinda just wash my face with soap and call it a day... products make my face pimply and the oil that appears on my face the next day is just unbelieavble. I've tried buying a face wash & after I use moisturizer, having a bit of concealer on the brush (slight discolouration) I use to apply the moisturizer on but lets just say I was a pretty shiny girl so I quit and I am curently trying to fall back to the soap plus water routine.

  2. Sadly, the only routine I always follow is using Oil of Olay lotion. I was given my first bottle by my great grandmother when I was 6 or so, and no matter where I stray with skin care, I always end up back at my oil of olay. Unscented, hypoallergenic is the variety I use now. I also avoid the sun, so that helps a great deal. My only cleanser now is a vanilla soap that has no harsh chemicals or cleansers, from Whole Foods. I use in for all washing and love it. I admit i am basically lazy, and blessed with good skin.

  3. Right now I'm just using soap and sometimes moisturizer. I feel like almost any product breaks my face out. But I'm for sure trying that aspirin mask!

  4. Perfectly imperfect, Maybe you just have good skin and don't need a lot of products. I just enjoy them, too.

Lizze, As long as it works. You reminded me that I have this natural soap E got from Morocco made with argan oil that I want to start using.

My Getaway, Yea maybe your skin is sensitive. Give the mask a try though, read up on it.

  7. A'salaamu alaikum. You know this winter (my first in a cold climate) I really started looking old and haggard. :-) I realized I had stopped using moisturizer. So I try to remember to put on (generic) Oil of Olay at least every other day. It was amazing what a little moisture can do! I really think it helped me perk back up considerably.

I also occasionally use a facial lotion with alpha hydroxy. Once again, WalMart brand cause I'm just too cheap to put out the big bucks!

    Ma salaama...

  8. Nice post! I love reading reviews and the like.

I used to sleep with my makeup on but it made my skin really dry so I:

    * Cleanse with L'Oreal's Demaq Face Eyes and Lips one or two times per day. Sometimes I just use water in the morning since I cleanse before sleeping.
    * Use Olay's Purifying Toner day and night.
    * Use Olay's Classic Beauty Fluid for moisturising day, night and 3 minutes before I put on makeup at any time.
    * Exfoliate 2 times per week with Simple Exfoliator and or Olay's Thermal Exfoliator.

    It's working very well :D

Can I ask how is the Garnier Cleanser? I might try it for the rare day I go without makeup haha

  9. Asalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,

I have a really really easy skin care routine and it makes my skin soft like a baby.

I cleanse everyday with this cleanser called Neutrogena deep clean cream cleanser. then, about once or twice a week while im in the shower I take a squeeze of the cleanser and a squeeze of St ives exfoliater in my hand, mix them together and massage it into my face. It scrubs and cleanses at the same time. It works so good especially when you feel the cleanser working and the exfoliater getting rid of the dead skin.

When I was in Egypt, I used the Nivea refreshing cleansing milk which did absoloutley nothing for me! I was so disappointed! Maybe its just me but does it work for you?

Also for a really good moisterizer, Im the same as you, im on the hunt for a good moisterizer but I bought Morrocan Argan oil which I heard does wonders. Just waiting for it arrive Insha'Allah!

  10. I don't have a particular regime. *TOo lazy~!!* Haha! But I normally use Elianto facial cleanser and scrub. If I'm going out, I'll apply the oil of ulay cream. That's about it really. :)

  11. Anya, I heard honey is great because of it's antibacterial properties. I don't use it enough.

BubbliMuslima, Thanks for the award! I like St. Ives Apricot too, just got sick of it.

Umm Aaminah, Yea most of the generic stuff has the same ingredients for something basic
    like Oil of Olay fluid.

Jaz, thanks, I can't keep up the toner habit, I don't know why. It just sits there. Once in a while I'll use it but yea. The Garnier Cleanser is nice. It feels and smells like Cetaphil, if you're familiar, but it lathers up a bit. A little goes a long way.

Muslimah, I used to use Deep Clean too, I love a tingly cleanser.
The Nivea milk is good if you have any make up, takes it off well and doesnt dry out your skin. I have argan oil and I love it. I use it on my cuticles, hands, feet and ends of my hair.

    Hajar, Heh, I'm lazy sometimes.

  13. I use baby products. Baby aqueous cream acts with water for removing my makeup and then just baby lotion. It keeps my skin soft and smooth. The only other thing ny skin tolerated was cucumber milk from body shop, but i dont get that where i live anymore. Cheerio! Lamya

  14. hehehe.. I play dress up, make-ups and spa(s) with my girls all the time - they love the time we spend doing silly girly things and yes, they would also love to do a facial regime with me, but I wont let them destroy their lovely skins..hehe, occasionally, they would scrub, cleanse, tone and mosturize their skins and then yell.. we are just like you! hehe

  15. soap is way too harsh for ur face and is a definite no no for me. i think that investing in a good facial cleanser and moisturizing cream is worth it. it just takes finding one that suits your skin. my fav brand right now has to be lancome.

  16. no matter what brand i switch to.... nivea has always been my fave and my mothers.

  17. LOL @ your kids!

I did a post about my skin care regime a few months back.

    http://shaelaiza.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-have-healthy-glowing-skin.html

But no matter what I do, the main thing is for me to drink lots of water otherwise I get blemishes so easily! Oh and a really good toner helps too =)
